UnforMETable, Episode 30: Randy Niemann

Welcome to UnforMETable, an Amazin’ Avenue Audio show that looks back on less heralded, more obscure, but quintessential Mets players from the past.

Randy Niemann was a well-regarded prospect who made a sensational debut with the Astros in 1979 before his struggles and some ensuing arm injuries derailed his career. Signed by the Mets in 1985, the lefty made his debut for New York in September of that season before earning a place in the back of the bullpen for the mighty 1986 team.

Niemann was not a huge contributor to that team during the regular season—nor did he make an appearance in the team’s stirring run to the World Series title—but that didn’t mean that he wouldn’t participate in post game celebrations.
