Tim Tebow can add a new accolade to his resume — Heisman Trophy winner, college football national champion and now Double-A All-Star.
The quarterback turned left-fielder made the Eastern League All-Star team Friday afternoon. Tebow currently is posting a slash line of .261/.335/.398 with the Mets’ Double-A affiliate Binghamton Rumble Ponies, and the next step may be the big leagues.
With the Mets flailing and Tebow being, well, Tebow, it’s becoming increasingly possible the team will call him up. The promotion would undoubtedly be considered a cash-grab — Tebow’s OPS is a solid but uninspiring .733, despite his All-Star status — but it would be hard to blame the 32-46 Mets for finding ways to sell tickets at this point.
