The back end of the Yankees bullpen features one reliever after another with closer stuff. When a significant portion of the Mets bullpen enters, it usually means the game is closer to over — in favor of the opposition.
There is no greater mismatch in this week’s Subway Series than the two bullpens.
The Yankees enter the series with the vastly superior unit, a group of shutdown relievers who are tied for the sixth-lowest ERA (3.92) in the game. That number is misleading, too, when you consider Dellin Betances (shoulder) hasn’t pitched all season. The Mets, aside from Edwin Diaz and Seth Lugo who have mostly performed well, have to hold their breath when their starting pitcher is finished, and now their iffy bullpen has to deal with the hitter’s haven that is Yankee Stadium.
