The Mets made a roster move Tuesday, one that was certainly needed, but one that made me a bit sad.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis, who many thought would be the Mets center fielder of the future just a few years ago, was designated for assignment after struggling miserably this season as the lefty bat off the bench. He was replaced by Darrell Ceciliani. Now, it's possible Kirk could clear waivers and end up back in Vegas, but you figure his time with the Mets is done, and that is what is sort of sad.
It was in 2012, after Andres Torres got hurt on Opening Day, when we first saw Kirk in action.
