The Mets struck first on the second batter of the game, as Brandon Nimmo launched a solo homer to put the Mets on the board. That set the tone for the home run bonanza. Juan Soto followed with a long single off the right field wall and a bloop single to center by Pete Alonso advanced him to second. A wild pitch by Mick Abel advanced the runners to second and third, but neither Jeff McNeil nor Jared Young were able to drive them in.
