PORT ST. LUCIE — Some of the best advice Pete Alonso ever received came from assistant baseball coach Brad Weitzel at the University of Florida.
“He used to say all the time,” Alonso told The Post Wednesday at First Data Field, “‘You got to give yourself a chance to get a chance.’”
Alonso, 24, is doing everything possible to give himself a chance.
“You have to give yourself the opportunity by putting yourself in that position by working hard, doing your homework by studying your opponent, making adjustments, basically giving yourself the opportunity to capitalize on something,” Alonso said.
