WASHINGTON — Steven Matz and Noah Syndergaard will continue pitching through any discomfort caused by bone spurs in their respective elbows, according to Mets general manager Sandy Alderson.
Team brass huddled with the pitchers on Tuesday, a day after Syndergaard lasted only three innings in the Mets’ 11-4 loss to the Nationals. The Mets had previously acknowledged Matz has a bone spur, and Alderson admitted Tuesday that Syndergaard also has a “very small” one.
Matz will have his next start pushed to Thursday – he was originally supposed to pitch the series finale against the Nationals a night earlier – to give his left elbow extra rest.
