Steven Matz back on schedule after blister burst

PHOENIX — Steven Matz isn’t expecting further complications from the blister that moved his start in this series to Saturday.

The Mets left-hander originally was scheduled to pitch Thursday against the Diamondbacks, but team officials inserted Jason Vargas into that spot after discovering Matz emerged from his outing against the Yankees last Saturday with a blister on his middle finger.

“It just developed during the last game, and then I was throwing and the skin peeled off,” Matz said at Chase Field. “I went to the trainer to have him cut it off and clean it up, and I guess once they saw that they decided it would be better to let Vargas pitch and give it extra days to heal.
