Steve Phillips talks David Wright and the Mets’ improbable run

The first brick in this Mets’ World Series team came in 2001 when the team selected David Wright in the MLB draft.

“Our video of him as an amateur was great and then when he came in he was just a classy kid, classy parents,” recalled Steve Phillips, who made the Wright selection as Mets general manager and is now an analyst and host for SiriusXM Radio.

“He was just a really nice young man. You could tell there was a time early on when it was thought he would be the Derek Jeter for the Mets and I know injuries have hampered him through the years, but he has carried himself in a way to be the voice of the organization.
