Steve Cohen’s Mets purchase expected to be approved by MLB owners on Friday

Per the Daily News, MLB owners are expected to vote to approve Steve Cohen as the new owner of the Mets on Friday. Cohen needs 22 out of a possible 29 votes for approval, and with only one definite “no” and two others on the fence, Cohen’s approval appears all but inevitable.

While this vote is the final step on the MLB side, Cohen still needs approval from New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, as the grounds on which Citi Field is built are owned by the city. This additional hurdle isn’t anticipated to prevent the sale of the team, but there is some fear that a hang-up could adversely effect the Mets’ offseason plans.
