Steve Cohen purchase of Mets officially approved by New York City Law Department

After the sale of the Mets to Steve Cohen was approved by MLB owners earlier today, Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted out that the city’s law department has completed its review of the proposed sale and has no objections, thus allowing the sale to proceed.

This was the final hurdle for Cohen to clear, and he has officially done so. There were some reports earlier in the week that the sale of the Mets from the Wilpon family to Cohen could potentially get delayed or even blocked by de Blasio due to the mayor’s concern over Cohen’s legal history, but both de Blasio and the New York City Law Department appear to have backed off whatever concerns they had.
