Starling Marte’s name has been dangled throughout the offseason and has intrigued the Mets, but according to industry sources little traction, if any, has occurred in recent weeks with the Pirates — who are looking to trade the veteran outfielder.
On Friday, general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said the Mets weren’t actively pursuing an outfielder. The Pirates previously had been interested in Brandon Nimmo as part of a potential deal.
“At this point we feel very confident in the group we have,” Van Wagenen said. “We are excited about the guys we have invited to camp, we are excited about the returning players that we’ll have back on the roster and we think we have added some key pieces from the outside that will help us this year.
