Free agent outfielder Jay Bruce has reached agreement on a three-year, $39 million contract with the New York Mets, two baseball sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old Bruce, who was dealt to the Cleveland Indians by the Mets prior to the trade deadline last season, hit a combined .254 last season with 36 home runs and 101 RBIs. He added much-needed lineup depth for an AL Central-winning Cleveland team that went 42-9 after he arrived in August.
Bruce is a career .249 hitter with 277 homers and 838 RBIs in nine major league seasons.
