Sandy Alderson’s defiant defense of Mets’ spending

Mets general manager Sandy Alderson

Sandy Alderson came out swinging Thursday against the notion the Mets aren’t spending money.

The general manager, in his first comments to reporters since undergoing cancer surgery in November, pounced upon an opportunity to defend the organization, after he was asked about the potential impact of losing Yoenis Cespedes’ bat in the lineup.

Alderson noted the fact the Mets payroll was roughly $85 million at the end of 2014, and said he would expect that number to jump between $115 million-$120 million for next season.
