KANSAS CITY, Mo. — In the days leading to the start of the World Series, Ned Yost mentioned he wasn’t afraid to pitch Johnny Cueto on the road.
Then the Royals’ manager assigned Cueto to start games 2 and 6, because the right-hander feeds off the Kauffman Stadium crowd.
On Wednesday night, he feasted on the Mets’ bats and helped the AL champions to a 7-1 Game 2 victory with a route-going effort that staked the Royals to a commanding 2-0 advantage in the best-of-seven Series. Game 3 is Friday night at Citi Field.
Cueto allowed a run and two hits.
