The Mets are rounding out their rotation — reports Wednesday say the will sign veteran Jose Quintana to be one of their starters.
The deal for the soon-to-be 34-year-old is reported to be for two years, $26 million. The lefty split this past season with the Pirates and Cardinals, pitching to a 2.93 ERA. His career ERA is a solid 3.75.
Quintana is a classic middle of the rotation guy, who replaces a similar pitcher in Taijuan Walker. Walker is younger, but the commitment the Phillies gave him (four years, $72 million) seems a bit high.
The Mets are probably still in the market for one more starter, in addition to rebuilding the bullpen, figuring out Brandon Nimmo and hopefully getting a big bat to DH.
