Report: Triple-A manager Backman resigns from Mets in advance of firing

New York Mets GM Sandy Alderson announced Monday tha Backman left the organization to pursue other opportunities. Backman said on Twitter later Monday night he resigned, however there were various reports that either confirmed as much or said he was fired.

The Bergen Record's Bob Klapisch, Backman resigned in advance of being fired.

"I'll have something to say about this. Very soon," Backman told Klapisch.

But according to the New York Post's Mike Puma, Alderson fired Backman because he didn't use outfielder Brandon Nimmo in the leadoff spot and kept Michael Conforto on the bench against left-handed pitching, "defying the organization's wishes.
