The Mets and Jose Reyes have agreed on a one-year deal, reports Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, who says Reyes is returning to the Mets with the understanding that he will be a utility player.
The deal will be worth less than $3 million, reports Joel Sherman of the NY Post.
Rosenthal notes that the Mets are still seeking a full-time second baseman. The team has been linked to Pirates INF/OF Josh Harrison, and free agents Eduardo Nunez, Neil Walker, and Todd Frazier.
