Report: Juan Uribe signing with Cleveland Indians

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Infielder Juan Uribe, who helped resurrect the New York Mets’ offense last season after arriving in a trade, has an agreement in place to sign with the Cleveland Indians, FoxSports.com reported.

The Mets acquired Uribe and Kelly Johnson from the Atlanta Braves on July 24 for minor league right-handers Rob Whalen and John Gant.

Uribe, 36, hit .219 with six homers and 20 RBIs in 128 at-bats with the Mets.

Once the Mets acquired Neil Walker and Asdrubal Cabrera this offseason, which pushed Wilmer Flores and Ruben Tejada to backup infielders, it became impractical to consider re-signing Uribe.
