The Mets and free agent OF/1B Jay Bruce have agreed on a three-year, $39 million deal, reports The Atlantic's Ken Rosenthal. Jerry Crasnick of ESPN broke the news that Bruce was close to signing with an unspecified team -- which he later confirmed to be the Mets.
The Mets had recently been in touch with Bruce's agent, Mike Puma of the NY Post reported earlier. Puma also said Bruce was "still very much a possibility" to return to New York.
The 30-year-old hit .254/.324/508 with a career-high 36 homers and 101 RBIs with the Mets and Indians last season.
