WASHINGTON — For a game in late August of a lost season, the Mets’ 6-5 win over the Washington Nationals, in the first game of Sunday’s day-night doubleheader, offered plenty of drama.
The Mets took a 5-0 lead on home runs by Asdrubal Cabrera and Wilmer Flores, only to see it squandered by the bullpen. Mets Manager Terry Collins cycled through six relievers — some sputtered and some did not — during the final five and two-thirds innings.
The Mets’ rookie shortstop, Amed Rosario, provided a go-ahead home run in the eighth inning off Nationals reliever Joe Blanton.
