Mets pitcher AJ Ramos is relieved to have found an explanation for why his once-considerable talents vanished seemingly overnight.
Ramos, who underwent surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in Manhattan last week to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, said he was reluctant to blame his performance on any injury.
But at the same time, acknowledging the serious discomfort he had been feeling — since last September — gave him closure as to why he hadn’t been pitching up to his usual standard.
“It kind of gave me some peace of mind, like, ‘OK, it’s not just in my head that I’m doing bad,’” Ramos said Sunday before the Mets fell to the Dodgers, 8-7, in 11 innings.
