Pete Alonso’s Player of the Week honors some rare good news for Mets

It’s hard to be hotter than a guy nicknamed “Polar Bear.”

Mets first baseman Pete Alonso was named National League Player of the Week for his torrid seven-day stretch that saw him hit .417, with an on-base percentage of .548, and a whopping slugging percentage of 1.042.

He also broke the Mets’ rookie home run record in the team’s 5-3 loss to the Chicago Cubs on Sunday, swatting his 27th of the season in the team’s 78th game.

Alonso has had a real opportunity to shine with the Mets. In April, he was also named NL Rookie of the Month and continues to rack up the awards in a standout first season in the big leagues.
