Pete Alonso set the all-time rookie home run mark by blasting his 53rd home run of the season in the third inning of the Mets’ game against the Braves on Saturday night at Citi Field. He passed the mark of 52 set by the Yankees’ Aaron Judge in 2017.
Alonso smacked the home run to right-center off Atlanta left-hander Mike Foltynewicz.
Judge said Friday that he would be happy if Alonso broke his record.
“There’s no better person to represent not only the Mets, but also the City of New York,’’ Judge said after sitting out the Yankees’ 14-7 win over the Rangers at Globe Life Park.
