It was Mark Vientos who played hero for the New York Mets on Saturday night in San Francisco. A two-run double was all they’d tack onto the scoreboard. It was all they needed in a game where David Peterson once again showed why he was an All-Star this season.
Vientos has been the subject of trade rumors in recent weeks. Still an imperfect fit on the team, he has been one of their better hitters in July as far as batting average goes. Although it’s .246, it’s fifth on the team and 20+ points above Francisco Lindor and Juan Soto.
