Steve Gelbs of SNY reported during his segment on Tuesday night’s broadcast that during a New York Mets team meeting on August 12, hitting coach Eric Chavez shifted the team’s approach to looking for fastballs and adjusting to breaking pitches. Gary Cohen then led a discussion with Gelbs and Keith Hernandez that even though the league’s pitching is more off speed heavy than ever, the controllable nature of the fastball means that you will most likely see one in every 5 to 7 pitch at-bat and probably see one worth hitting at least once a game.
