New York Mets rookie home run record belongs to Pete Alonso

Sunday’s matchup pitting the New York Mets against the Chicago Cubs was a historic one.

In the fourth inning of the game, rookie first baseman Pete Alonso hit his 27th home run of the season off of Cubs pitcher Cole Hamels, setting a new franchise record for most home runs hit by a rookie in a season.

As previously reported, Alonso was on pace to break several records this season, and this past Saturday, Alonso tied Strawberry’s record which has stood since 1983.

Just one day later, Alonso broke the record by hitting an 0-2 pitch off of Hamels and parked it dead center field.
