New York Mets DFA Carlos Gómez to clear spot for Noah Syndergaard

New York Mets right-handed pitcher Noah Syndergaard will return to the mound on Sunday against the Atlanta Braves. Syndergaard has been on the 10-day injured list with a low-grade hamstring strain. He suffered the injury on June 15 and was then placed on the 10-day IL the following day.

Syndergaard, through 15 starts this season, is 5-4 with an ERA of 4.55. He’s coming back at a convenient time for the Mets, as they’ve lost seven straight games and are in the worst position they’ve been in all season.

However, in order to clear room on the roster for Syndergaard to return, the Mets decided to designate outfielder Carlos Gómez for assignment.
