Steve Cohen got the approval of Major League Baseball (MLB) owners on Friday, paving the way for him to become the owner of the New York Mets. In a transaction said to be around $2.4 billion, the hedge fund billionaire acquired the franchise from the Wilpon and Katz families and will now be the wealthiest owner in the league.
However, according to a report from SNY’s Andy Martino, Cohen and Sandy Alderson, appointed as the New York Mets’ president in the new era that is about to begin, probably won’t break the bank for top-tier free agents, at least not in the first season in charge.
