New York Mets 1B Pete Alonso becomes first rookie with 50 HR and 30 doubles

Pete Alonso has added another accolade to his already-sensational rookie season as the New York Mets first baseman.

On Sunday, in the midst of a 6-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds, Alonso hit his 30th double of 2019. He’s now the first rookie in Major League history to hit for 50 home runs and 30 doubles in a season. Alonso smacked his 50th homer during New York’s 8-1 win over the Reds on Friday night.

The 30th double came in the top of the first inning during Sunday’s matchup. It adds another accolade to Alonso’s résumé, which includes 2019 Home Run Derby winner and could include 2019 home run champion.
