PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Before Mike Piazza gets his number retired by the New York Mets or is enshrined in Cooperstown, he will serve as a guest instructor in spring training with the organization.
John Franco and MLB inclusion ambassador Billy Bean also are scheduled to serve as instructors at Mets camp.
The Mets plan to retire Piazza's No. 31 during a pregame ceremony July 30 before a Saturday evening game against the Colorado Rockies. Piazza is set to become the fourth uniformed Met -- and second player -- to have his number retired by the organization.
