When the Mets opted to keep Michael Conforto despite Michael Cuddyer’s return, they said it was because it gave them the best chance to win.
Saturday, Conforto’s game-tying, seventh-inning home run — his first at Citi Field — gave them that chance, but they just didn’t cash in on it.
Conforto took Charlie Morton deep for a two-run homer, only to see the Mets fall 5-3 to the Pirates in 14-innings in front of 38,878 in Flushing.
“It’s crazy. It’s like a flash, indescribable,” said Conforto, who golfed a 2-1 splitter out to right to knot the game.
