The Mets are about to go way outside the box.
Agent Brodie Van Wagenen has become the primary focus in the team’s head of baseball operations search. Van Wagenen will have beaten out Rays vice president Chaim Bloom and longtime exec Doug Melvin, who was eliminated from contention Thursday, for the position.
The remaining question is whether the two parties can come to an agreement on a deal. The move would not be without controversy as conflict-of-interest questions would arise as Van Wagenen has multiple Mets clients.
