Mets: Zack Wheeler resumes rehab from Tommy John surgery

Mets RHP Zack Wheeler resumed long-tossing from 90 feet on Monday for the first time since receiving a cortisone shot last week.

Wheeler reported no issues after throwing, according to Mets assistant GM John Ricco.

Wheeler’s rehab from Tommy John surgery was temporarily halted last week after he complained of discomfort in his pitching elbow.

He was examined in New York and diagnosed with sensory nerve irritation, though his elbow was found to be structurally sound.

Wheeler, who has been sidelined since undergoing Tommy John surgery last March, was initially on track for a return around July 1, though the Mets had recently pushed that target back to around the All-Star break since they didn’t want Wheeler to “stop and start” so soon after returning.
