Mets unknowingly added two key championship pieces a week before 1977’s Midnight Massacre

The 1977 Midnight Massacre may have ended the New York Mets hopes of contending for a few years, but a week before it happened, the team unknowingly drafted two key members of a future championship roster.

A week before the infamous Midnight Massacre in 1977 which saw the New York Mets trade away Tom Seaver and Dave Kingman in separate deals, the team added two key pieces to a future championship.
