Mets Somehow Survive Another Night of Miscues

It was a night to make Mets fans recall Luis Castillo, which is rarely a good thing.

In an echo of a memorably wrenching Mets defeat, an infielder dropped what should have been an inning-ending, and perhaps game-saving, infield pop-up.

As a result, an unheralded pitcher who might have come away with an unexpected victory in his first major-league start, a game he waited seven years to pitch in, had to settle for a no-decision.

More than an hour and five innings later, the Mets made off with a 5-4 win when Jay Bruce singled in the winning run in the 12th inning.
