WASHINGTON — It’s best to play deep against the Mets’ Big Three outfielders.
With Michael Conforto’s return from the disabled list, that unit was together for the first time in 2018 on Thursday to spoil the Nationals’ home opener and give the Mets an early confidence booster in their bid to compete in the NL East.
Jay Bruce’s grand slam in the seventh inning was the exclamation point, but Conforto and Yoenis Cespedes also homered, accounting for three additional runs in the Mets’ 8-2 victory before a Nationals Park sellout of 42,477.
