Mets sign second-round pick J.T. Ginn

The Mets have signed J.T. Ginn, their second-round pick in this year’s greatly-reduced amateur draft, for $2.9 million, which is one-and-a-half million dollars above the value assigned to the slot in which he was drafted. With that, the team has signed all six of its picks from the five-round draft, during which the Mets had one extra pick as compensation for Zack Wheeler having signed with the rival Philadelphia Phillies.

Here’s some of what Steve Sypa had to say about Ginn in his profile of the 21-year-old on draft day:

Prior to Tommy John, Ginn had an explosive fastball that sat in the low-to-mid-90s and topped out in the upper-90s.
