The Mets threatened to score a bunch of runs, but they only plated one in a loss to the Diamondbacks tonight in Arizona.
The biggest opportunity of the night came in the third inning, as the Mets had Diamondbacks starter Zac Gallen on the ropes. Back-to-back-to-back walks by Gallen forced in a run, but Starling Marte—who hit cleanup in this one—came up empty as he struck out on three pitches with the bases loaded with Francisco Lindor, Juan Soto, and Pete Alonso. And the Mets didn’t score the rest of the way, either.
David Peterson had his worst start of the season, too, as he gave up four runs in six innings of work.
