The Mets announced that designated hitter and occasional outfielder Jesse Winker will miss 6-8 weeks with a Grade 2 strain of his oblique. Winker suffered the injury during a game that saw him make his first appearance of the year in the outfield on Sunday.
In 78 plate appearances so far this season, Winker has hit .239/.321/.418 with one home run and a 104 wRC+. As a left-handed hitter, he’s gotten the majority of the playing time at DH thus far.
In Winker’s absence, the Mets have decided to—at least temporarily—call Brett Baty back up to the big leagues.
