Steven Cohen may be buying the Mets with the money he’s saving on politics.
The billionaire hedge fund magnate gave a total of zero dollars and zero cents to federal candidates, officeholders or their various campaign committees in all of 2019, Federal Election Commission records show.
Cohen has a long history of political giving, supporting both Republicans and Democrats, though in recent years he has ponied up considerably more for the GOP.
In 2016, he supported Chris Christie’s campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, sinking (along with his wife) at least four million dollars into his campaign before the New Jersey governor flamed out.
