The Mets are involved in "serious discussions" to acquire free agent 1B Adrian Gonzalez, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
The Mets had reached out to Gonzalez following his release from the Braves in December, ESPN's Buster Olney reported at the time.
Gonzalez was traded from the Dodgers to the Braves in December, but was designated for assignment following the trade.
Gonzalez, who plagued by a back injury last season, hit .242 with three home runs and 30 RBIs in 71 games for the Dodgers in 2017. He spent the last five-plus seasons with the Dodgers after stints with the Rangers, Padres, and Red Sox.
