Mets release Travis d’Arnaud

The New York Mets have officially released Travis d’Arnaud, bringing an end to his seven-year stint as their catcher. The news comes after the club designated d’Arnaud for assignment on April 28. The Mets are now on the hook for the entirety of his $3.515 million salary.

The 30-year-old catcher was the centerpiece of the R.A. Dickey trade that also netted veteran catcher John Buck and prospects Noah Syndergaard and Wuilmer Becerra following the 2012 season. At the time, d’Arnaud was one of, if not, the top catching prospect in the game and came with lofty expectations, and he debuted for the club on August 17, 2013.
