NEW YORK -- With a healthy Travis d'Arnaud ready to assume a regular workload behind the plate, the Mets on Tuesday optioned backup catcher Kevin Plawecki back to Triple-A Las Vegas, where he can play every day until rosters expand in September. To replace him, the team recalled Anthony Recker.
Plawecki, 24, stuck around when d'Arnaud returned from the disabled list on July 31 in part because the Mets wanted to give their starting catcher frequent off-days. But d'Arnaud has since displayed no ill effects from the sprained left elbow that sidelined him, giving the Mets enough confidence to send Plawecki back to the Minors, a move the club announced after Tuesday's 4-0 win over the Rockies.
