It didn’t make sense when the Mets signed Alejandro De Aza over the winter, and his presence on the roster is now reaching an untenable level.
De Aza, who is hitting .169/.221/.247 in 52 games this season, added lack of hustle to his ledger during Saturday night’s win over the Braves in Atlanta.
With Wilmer Flores on first base in the 10th inning, De Aza popped up a bunt and slammed his bat initially instead of running. The Braves then wisely let the ball drop and turned a double play.
Mets manager Terry Collins weighed in after the game:
“Very surprising,” Collins said.
