Mets Morning News: Mets go down without a fight

Once again, the Mets got some excellent pitching in the team’s series opener against the Phillies last night. And once again, they failed to hit with runners in scoring position numerous times, leading to a 2-1 defeat as a frustrating April came to a conclusion.

Marcus Stroman pitched solidly in his start but had to leave the game early due to a tight hamstring. He expressed confidence that he’d be able to make his next start, however.

The Mets and Phillies benches cleared after the top of the eighth inning when Jose Alvarado exchanged some words with Dominic Smith after striking him out in a big two-out spot.
