Mets Morning News: Man of deHour

Jacob deGrom is staying in Flushing until 2024 after agreeing to a five-year, $137.5 million contract extension with the Mets. Ken Rosenthal reported that as recently as Saturday, the Mets offer to deGrom was a three-year extension worth $88 million.

Many Mets’ fans had the same reaction as Deadspin writer David Roth upon hearing the news of the contract extension.

John Harper writes that with getting the deal done, Brodie Van Wagenen avoids coming off looking like a phony.

Wallace Matthews thinks deGrom’s extension could be the start of a new era while Tim Britton writes that the deal signals the Mets are all in.
