The post-deadline Mets opened up a new series at home against the Giants last night after being swept by the Padres in California. Unfortunately, the bad times continued for the Amazins, as they fell to San Francisco 4-3 in ten innings. They fell behind early on, as David Peterson gave up two runs in in the second inning (though those would prove to be the only ones he’d surrender in six innings of work), and Ryne Stanek also got tagged for one run in the seventh to make it 3-0 Giants. While the Mets bats were largely helpless for most of the night, they did manage to get a run in the seventh (off a solo homer from Pete Alonso) and two more in the eighth to tie it.
