Mets Lose Again as They Plod Toward the Trade Deadline

TORONTO — This Mets team has players of all ages either hurt or underperforming. Their off-season acquisitions have not panned out. Their rookie manager has looked at times like, well, a rookie. The general manager stepped down last week because of a recurrence of cancer but acknowledged he was unlikely to return.

And that was just the first half of the season.

The Mets reached the halfway point of their 162-game season earlier this week, but there is no sign of a midseason turnaround. On Tuesday, it was more of the same: A promising performance by a starting pitcher was squandered in an 8-6 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays.
