Mets Hot Stove: Steve Gelbs with Kevin Long

Noah Syndergaard has a legit baseball swing. He knows it. The coaches know it. And, his teammates know it.

Frankly, if I didn't know better, had I just walked in to camp, based on his swing in practice, I would think he was one of the better hitters on the team.

The reality is he hit just .209 with one HR and one double, while striking out during half of his 50 plate appearances last season. However, Syndergaard believes he has the size and talent to improve.

In my conversation with him, he talked about his stance, "pitch selection," pitches per at bat, "swing-and-miss rate," and explained how Kevin Long has been trying to improve his "load," which is when a batter gathers momentum in his legs and back and pivots to create a more explosive swing.
